The Ship
The huge and spectacular MSC Fantasia glides guests along in on board luxury, featuring a hyperbolic host of facilities and cutting-edge features. The ship’s MSC Aurea Spa gives guests the opportunity for between-stops spa treats such as mud packs and reclining in the thermal cave. A plethora of dishes are up for grabs in the ship’s five restaurants, and leisure options include four swimming pools, 12 hydro-massage pools and a ‘4D’ cinema. An extravagant Swarovski crystal floor is one of the ship’s further sparkling features, and a transparent ceiling allows sailing guests to watch the starlit sky pass by.

The On-Board Experience
Pairs can scramble on deck with their luggage before settling down in their room choice, picking between an inside, ocean view or balcony cabin. Cabins vary in size include a spacious wardrobe, an en suite with a shower, or bath tub in the balcony cabin, and a TV, while internet access is available for a supplement. Between days at shore and sea customers are sated with in full board style, including three square, or possibly circular, meals a day which can be taken in one of the ship’s many eateries.

The Cruise
The ship sets sail from the economic hub of Genoa, with its Romanesque-Renaissance cathedral and many handsome houses and palaces. The next morning she docks in Naples, and a day of exploration gives guests the chance to dive in to Renaissance and Baroque art collections on display at the Napolitan National Gallery, or sample some of the city’s famous pizza. The following day it’s Palermo, Sicily’s beautiful capital, where you can head underground to weave through the eerie catacombs. Tunisian port, La Goulette, is the next stop, and from here you can take the 15 minute taxi ride into the city to soak in the flavoursome chaos of the medina, or sip a tea in a pavement cafe. After an intervening day at sea, Barcelona awaits, where Gaudi's unfinished Sagrada Família Cathedral looms. Finally, for a French tip, Marseille is the last stop before the ship returns to Genoa, with an ancient fish market and jumble of artisan shops.

Reviews

Several CruiseCritics praised MSC Cruises for its beautiful ships. It is noted that the MSC style is 'definitely European', which is reflected in the service, food and activities.

This is a truly magnificent ship. The main foyer is fantastic with it's crystal staircase. It is huge but after a day or two you should get your bearings. Depending on your cabin location you may have a bit of a walk to the nearest elevator, this was'nt [sic] a problem for us but perhaps older people should try and get a cabin near enough to elevators.

The main dining room, called the Red Velvet is where we ate dinner every night. There are two sittings 6:30 and 9:30. Food is absolutely fantastic and it was very rare we found something we didn’t like. The portions were small but you could pick up to around 6 courses so you definitely didn’t go hungry. There is also a buffet where you can have breakfast, lunch and dinner. Food here was also great.
