Planted in the middle of Colchester’s city centre like a jam packed ball of falafel, this Mediterranean inspired restaurant brings to life a classic Turkish dining experience with a sizzling menu of rich meze and grill dishes. With style as authentic as its cuisine, the restaurant is decked in wealthy red décor while traditional Turkish embroidery enlivens the walls and floors. On Fridays and Saturdays belly dancers entertain guests with their mind boggling moves and a bar license extended until 1am makes for a party into the wee hours.
Duet singers and double daters can share and share alike during a traditional Turkish meal. Setting the table alight with the hot meze, patrons can tuck into kalamar (£5.90), a dish of fried squid with rocket and yoghurt sauce and borek (£4.50) - tiny parcels of filo pastry filled with feta cheese and parsley. Moving over to the cooler side of things, guests can nibble on some yogurhlu patlican ezme (£4.50), a plate of grilled aubergine marinated in purée garlic and yoghurt plus a classic Mediterranean dish of hummus (£3.90), a popular nibble made of puréed chickpeas with seasame oil, garlic, and lemon juice. All dishes are served with fresh homemade bread and a salad garnish. The food was fantastic, generous portions of well prepared authentic Turkish cuisine. My colleagues and clients went for the first time and much to our surprise belly dancers were in fall [sic] swing.
