Having formed a key part of the Leeds music scene for over 30 years, The Wells is an established venue for acts ranging from unsigned stars in-the-making to international heavyweights. The company is now extending its entertainment skills to a sizzling set of monthly comedy nights. The shows will feature a raucous bundle of comedians, many familiar faces and smoking hot on international circuits. Patrons need not travel far to get their giggles with the venue located a 15 minute walk from Leeds train station.
The giggle prone can choose to attend one of three special nights of comedy on 11 September, 16 October and 13 November 2011. The first night kicks off with the acclaimed Roger Monkhouse, famous for his original wit and writing for TV shows such as '8 Out Of 10 Cats'. Sunday 16 October sees Dave Holland open, followed by Micky Sharma and closed by Martin Davis, whilst Sunday 13th November showcases Bob Walshy Walsh, Taylor Glenn and finally Tony Burgess. Between chuckles, audience members can enjoy some freshly prepared tucker, choosing between the Well's signature cheese and bacon burger and veggie-friendly falafel topped with tzatsiki. Both options are served with hand cut fries, salad and homemade ketchup.
Having recently undergone a substantial refurbishment, reviewers have expressed positive feedback, describing it as a significant live music venue for the area.
It has recently been done up and is actually rather nicely done. The seats are comfy and the stage is of a decent enough size and it has a relaxed atmosphere. Drinks are pretty cheap and the bar staff are nice and friendly.
