As one of the largest remaining grass-surfaced airfields in Europe, Bicester Gliding Centre pays tribute to its historical origins as an RAF base by retaining authentic hangars, control tower and a pre-WWII bomb store. Its passion for the gliding is equally evident in the instruction and assurance provided during lessons.
Those wanting a taste of the clouds can tread the historic boards of the gliding centre, beginning with an extensive briefing on airfield safety and the logistics behind a successful soaring. Once in the know, visitors will set off with a British Gliding Association qualified instructor, getting the chance to take controls and fly the glider, spending up to an hour in the air at 2,000ft. As well as being granted 3 months’ membership to the Gliding Club, visitors will receive a certificate and thorough de-brief, taking note of the skills needed to make long-term friends with the birds.
