About Tutbury Castle
An ancient castle steeped in centuries of history, Tutbury has seen its fair share of momentous occasions and grisly goings-on. Occupied since the 11th century, this fortress was one of the prisons of Mary Queen of Scots and one of the great centres of power in the medieval world. Regular historic re-enactments and spooky ghost tours educate curious visitors whilst simultaneously sinking them into the enthralling world of this towering fort.

About the event
Families can travel back to 917AD, diving into battle for two days among a horde of invading Vikings. These Nordic nomads are recreated in all their terrifying glory, providing an accurate and educational portrayal from attire to deadly weaponry. A living history camp displays how these remarkable individuals lived, with inquisitive individuals encouraged to pry away at the habits and history of the invaders. As the day progresses, the battle unfolds before guest’s very eyes as the English army arrives and all hell breaks loose.
