Show Synopsis
Still one of the most visually stunning theatre pieces of all time, Starlight Express is a fast-paced, futuristic musical, jam-packed with catchy numbers. The story is about toy railway trains that come to life in the mind of a young boy, and which compete to win the title of fastest engine in the world. With actors on roller skates playing the roles of the trains, the show oozes incomparable energy and speed, partnered with memorable tunes.

Reviews

Though yet to be reviewed at the Liverpool Empire, earlier stops on Starlight Express' tour received positive write-ups from critics at The Stage as well as The Public Reviews. Reviewers praised the show's energy and choreography, as well as the set design.

The show was always more an exercise in theatrical spectacle rather than content, too, but by reducing the scale, Phillips also uncovers some of the charm that has always been lurking below it, as old technology - in this case, a steam train - triumphs over its more modern electricity and diesel rivals. – Mark Shenton, The Stage, May 2012

The band, under the direction of Dave Rose deserve a special mention for bringing the score to life and their excellent playing throughout. This latest touring version of Starlight Express is high energy, with some magical musical moments performed by a very strong cast. – Laura Stimpson, The Public Reviews, May 2012
