Particularly hungry computer programmers often take mega-bites of their dinner. Monitor fine dining with today’s Groupon: £33 for three courses of modern European fare for two at Sheldrakes.

Encompassed by stunning views of the Welsh mountains and the trickling waters of the Dee Esturary, the award-winning Sheldrakes is a restored sailing club that serves up modern European fare and a vivacious al fresco dining experience. The establishment, celebrated by Taste Liverpool, is reminiscent of a rustic Greek taverna with white-washed walls, exposed brickwork, and wooden furnishings. The ever-changing seasonal menu is delicately garnished with Mediterranean offerings in the shape of duck, venison, and freshly-prepared seafood dishes, while traditional Sunday carveries are also in place at weekends. Weddings, birthday parties, and business lunches need not miss out, and are tended to with private event catering.

Shored up on table spreads, starters may include the likes of seared scallops with spearmint and pea puree, pancetta crisps, and chorizo oil (£6.95). Main courses include the 8oz fillet of beef served with a potato and celeriac rosti (£21.95) the seared duck breast with a poached pear (£13.95), and the gnocchi with roasted pumpkin, goats’ cheese and a spinach cream sauce (£9.95). A desirous dessert, such as the pecan and manuka honey filo pastry strudel with vanilla ice cream (£5.95), will be on hand to sweeten the palate, while tasty tipples will be available at regular rates.
