Graffiti artists often get their inspiration from urban cityscapes, old masters, and spilled cans of alphabetti spaghetti. Pick up some tips with today's Groupon: £29 for a two hour graffiti workshop at Zap Grafitti Arts.
Fostering artistic flair from its decked-out graffiti studio, Zap Grafitti Arts has imparted the art of the spray can from tailored workshops and youth engagement projects for the last 17 years. Led by respected graffiti writers, this seasoned team works to secure city space for head-turning pieces, while paving the concrete jungle for the next generation. Those more comfortable musing over contemporary works from afar can visit the online shop to snag an edgy piece for their collection.
The two hour graffiti workshop will introduce students to the venerated spray can art form, starting with an experienced practitioner waxing lyrical on the history behind the technique. Safety equipment including masks and goggles will then be donned, before itchy spray fingers set to work on creating individual 5ft x 2.5ft canvases, taking home the completed modern masterpieces at the end of the session.
Sat 2, 23, and 30 June: 10am-midday, 12.30pm-2.30pm, and 3pm-5pm
Sun 17, 24, and 1 July: midday-2pm
While yet to be widely reviewed, Zap has attracted a favourable write-up from one Yelper impressed by its championing of graffiti and industrious headquarters.
Zap have been promoting graffiti as a positive art form since 1995 … These headquarters are partly a creative space where the art can be practised without the fear of persecution and partly a gallery where original works can be bought. It's also possible to buy such materials as spraypaints....and spraypaints. They do murals on commission. Beautiful.
