Modern art is known for geometric patterns, splashes of colour and inducing bad posture. Fix your frame with today’s Groupon: £39 for a beginners’ mosaic workshop at Create Mosaic.
Although the mosaic medium dates back to antiquity, Create Mosaic helps crafty students learn the contemporary art of artistic tiling to make imagery or patterns using a range of materials at their Kilburn studio. Lead instructor Debra teaches students a variety of laying styles called andamento and other traditional methods, as well as offering her services for school and community projects and for private commissions.
Cutting through the embellished pieces, customers can expect to learn a combination of history and practical tips during the six-hour workshop. The ins and outs of laying and grouting techniques will be covered, with all materials in hand, so students can set about creating coasters or photo frames under Debra’s guidance. Locking the last piece into place, clients can then take their finished project home and install it in pride of place. Classes are offered throughout the year with ongoing twice weekly classes:
