With a cookery book filled with traditional family recipes, The Thai Elephant escorts the complex flavours of the East to the leafy streets of Richmond. The restaurant’s exterior offers a traditional Thai approach to design, and chefs serve up an inspiring menu of golden-edged tempura vegetables, fiery jungle curries, and stir fries cooked with sizzle, spice, and all things nice.
Riding the elephant across the terrains of Thailand, the culinary journey will set off with the likes of the duck spring rolls with cucumber, spring onions, and Hoisin sauce (£6.95) or pork spare ribs marinated in a honey barbecue sauce (£5.95). The tour of the land of smiles will take off with mains such as the Weeping Tiger, featuring slices of entrecote steak served on a sizzling platter (£11.45), the yellow curry with chicken, coconut milk, potatoes, and onions (£8.75), or the Singapore noodles with pork, baby corn, sugar snap peas, bean sprouts, and a sprinkling of curry powder (£7.50). The food is fresh and well prepared. The food can be on the very hot side. If you don't like it hot, they will tone down the spices considerably. The Weeping Tiger is always a good choice - tender beef in a mild sauce with crisp broccoli, carrots and stir fried vegetables. We also enjoy the Pad Thai Korat, which may not be on the menu, but they will prepare most any Thai dish, if they have the ingredients.
