Suggesting to a friend that 'this place is different to anything else in London' is something you will rarely do in your life, let alone on a regular basis, and it is with that in mind that Supperclub is so often the suggestion that pops up when pining for a change of scenery in this city. Not for the feint hearted, Supperclub is based on a few ideals coming together, even clashing, to alleviate and heighten your senses. Add food into the mix and this promises to be a very interesting experience indeed.
Originating in Amsterdam and founded by Bert van deer Leden, the concept is built upon a very simple idea, a restaurant in a club. And, for us, that is a wonderful cohesion regardless of the delivery, and boy is the delivery good. Set over two levels, each offering its own bar, there's a central dance floor area on the ground floor which is surrounded by a smattering of tables and a generous coating of beds, yes I said beds. Upstairs there are balconies all around allowing you to lean over and observe all the goings on below, and give the perfect vantage point for a spot of people watching which, believe me, you'll want to do.
Now for the important bit, the menu, there is a small twist with regard to that. There isn't one…thats right, there is no menu. Its a 'like it or lump it' policy which is no bad thing, like I said, this venue is not for the feint of heart. A different menu every time means one important thing, freshly prepared food. The common theme is very much of a modern, fine-dining persuasion and consists of 4 courses. Dishes like the roasted scallop and butternut squash with soya glazed bokchoi, lemon grass and Thai basil froth is a prime example. The menu is headed up by Renaud Marin, previously of the Oxo Tower, so it is food created with an experienced guiding hand.
Blending food with music, dance and art is a dangerous and exciting venture, and you might need a pair of shades to shield your eyes from the brilliant white that every inch is covered in, but for those who enjoy the thrill of the unexpected and have a taste for a new aesthetic, a diverse playground awaits.
