Synopsis
Set against the backdrop of Liverpudlian class warfare, Blood Brothers tells the story of twin boys separated at birth to follow very different lives. On meeting again years later, the brothers are faced with a rivalry that will lead them to a dramatic end. Themes of nature versus nurture are climatically explored, along with friendship, love, and brotherly rivalry.

About The Event
This musical was written by Willy Russell, a star of the box office with over 20 years working in the West End keeping his name up in lights. Blood Brothers opened at the famous Lyric theatre and ran off with Best New Musical and Best Actress in its first year, and now plays in the golden interiors of the Phoenix Theatre.

The Venue
Boasting fine interiors, The Phoenix is decked in plush red and gold, making every trip a red carpet affair. Evening performances of Blood Brothers raise curtains at 7.45pm and call curtains approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes later, with matinee performances at 3pm. A 15-minute interval allows the audience to stock up on small refreshments and check the sky hasn’t fallen before rejoining the story. Based in the bright lights of London’s West End, the theatre is close to many amenities including hotels, cash-points, restaurants, and sunglasses shops.

Reviews

Though still to be extensively reviewed with its current cast, Blood Brothers received a crowd-pleasing 5/5 from The Telegraph, while What's On Stage awarded 4/5 from the users and 3/5 from the critic. Special mentions went to the exploration of the show's themes as well as the portrayals of the characters.

Blood Brothers’ ability to combine comedy and tragedy, great songs with a searching examination of both the nature-vs-nurture debate and the malign role of class in British society strikes me as remarkable.
Charles Spencer, The Telegraph, Nov 2009

Still one of the best shows in London. Full of emotion. Wonderful!!
Frank, What's On Stage User, May 2012
