Sitting pretty in a prestigious location yards from Buckingham Palace, Bumbles Restaurant serves up a royal fare of contemporary takes on British classics. The candle-lit ambience and snuggled tables glow over two floors, with terracotta tiles and crisp white tablecloths preserving a Victorian quaintness in the basement. Locally sourced food is used to create seasonal dishes and house specialities, while an extensive wine list complements flavours.
Starting the foodie festivities with spring asparagus and egg yolk croustade, the seven course tasting menu (£38.50 per person) gets underway, followed by baked potato soup. Morecombe Bay shrimps are sizzled in the lasagne with hay veloute, while halloumi meets a beer battered coating, and chicken is roasted with mushrooms and purple sprouting broccoli before being served up with a liver parfait. Two sweets can then finish off the feastings, with a gin and tonic sorbet to cleanse the palate before marinated pineapple and caramel tones candy-coat the banana crumble.
