The first hotel to offer bed and breakfast got the idea off to a bad start when they filled their guests' beds with marmalade and scrambled egg. Don't get into a jam with today's Groupon: for £85 instead of £190, spend an evening with a significant other at the Rushton Hall Hotel and Spa, Northamptonshire.
Rising triumphantly from the river Ise in the depths of rural Northamptonshire sits a grand, early-fifteenth century mansion. Commissioned by Sir John Tresham in 1438, Rushton Hall is an imposing, yet artistically graceful example of early Renaissance architecture. Built using local stone and set among acres of trees and gardens, this salute to stately Britain is accredited as being Dickens' inspiration for Haversham Hall. As is typical of design from this period, Ruston Hall is built around a central lawn leading into an interior of unabashed grandeur. Huge stone and timber fireplaces adorn most rooms, whilst ornate plasterwork and rich examples of stained glass can be found in the Great Hall, Drawing Room and Dining Room Library. Replete with a two rosettes restaurant, a spa, fitness suite and a cellar bar as well as 45 luxury rooms, Rushton Hall is just the place to be if one finds themselves under siege.
Groupon holders are invited to leave the rest of the world behind and embrace an evening of luxury. Whether lazing by the pool, unwinding in the library with some classic literature or indulging the naughty side in the haunting cellar bar, Rushton Hall can accommodate for all desires. Once the evening draws to a close and it is time to retire for the night, pass the time in palatial surroundings in one of Rushton's elegant bedrooms. In the morning, awake at leisure and pop down to the restaurant for breakfast.
