Thread between a maze of cobbled streets, market squares and stoic canals, the Oud Huis de Peellaert is a majestic and formally aristocratic residence within one of Europe's best preserved Medieval cities. With the frozen ripple of old tiled roofs stretching over whitewashed almshouses and gabled terraces, the city spreads a sense of its historic presence through the perfectly preserved façade of a medieval commercial hub. Overflowing with tourists in summer, the city takes on a quieter character in winter, when the icy canals can sometimes be skated, and the Basilica of the Holy Blood can be appreciated in its full majesty.

The Hotel
Formerly the residence of a 19th century aristocrat, the Oud Huis de Peelleart has sought to maintain a sense of past luxury while providing the comfort of recently refurbished four star accommodation. The reception is plump with antique furniture, the walls draped in ornate wallpaper and hung with ancestral portraits, and a staircase winds a wooden spiral through the atrium to the rooms. L'Occitane products sit prettily in all of the en-suite bathrooms, and large beds, soft lighting, tea and coffee making facilities, flat screen TVs, and fee Wi-Fi can all be enjoyed in the Executive bedrooms. The arched caverns of the hotel's basement have been transformed into a cave-like gym and a secluded spa, where guests can either let off steam or sit in it depending on their choice of relaxation. Days are started at the breakfast restaurant and end at the cosy bar and lounge, and the super-central location makes it a luxurious spot to retreat to after time spent tottering across the cobbled alleys, humped bridges and many nearby attractions.

Groupon Recommends
Start an exploration of the picture-perfect city with the two main squares, where a burgeoning belfry dominates the Markt, and the Burg is lined with some of the city's most impressive architecture. Winding away from the central hub, visitors can make their way through the cobbled streets and over the canals of the city's eastern quarter, perhaps chartering a horse-drawn carriage or settling into the gentle rock of a canal boat tour. Those in search of the main museums can find them along the Dijver, marvelling at the early Flemish art of the Groeninge before moving onto a broader appreciation of Bruges' many churches.

Local Amenities
As a major Belgian city, Bruges offers a glittering variety of dining options, from the thick sticky waffles and the smooth melt of artisan chocolate that have made Belgium famous, to the delicate Flemish twists to be found in some of the more unusual French restaurants. A bubbling tourist hotspot during the summer high season, there are shops, bars, and cafés at every turn. The British embassy can be found a train ride away in Brussels, at Avenue d'Auderghem 10, Oudergemlaan, 1040.

Beautiful hotel, period decorated. Staff very helpful. Buffet breakfast was more than enough to keep you satisfied for most of the day. Room spacious and maid service provided each day. Very clean. Central location and easy to get around.

…the elegant exterior of the hotel is good but the interior is better; furnished with antiques and oil paintings, fresh flower arrangements on antique tables; it gave a relaxed but efficient atmosphere in a classically elegant building, centrally located and very good value.
