Although crosswords make great food for thought, and music is the food of love, neither dish is likely to be well-received at a medieval banquet re-enactment. Indulge more corporeal appetites with today's Groupon: £59 for a three course à la carte Asian fusion meal for two with a champagne cocktail each at Michelin Guide listed Silk.
The Michelin recommended Silk takes law-abiding diners on a comestible cruise down the old Silk Road, serving its dishes in a Grade II listed magistrates' court building. Among the panels and pews of the chambers where Napoleon, Oscar Wilde, and Sir Mick Jagger stood trial, customers can delve into seasonally-changing treats spiced with peppers that were once the grail for seafaring explorers. Head Chef Rajesh Parmar creates a tongue tickling taste fusion of once rare spices and traditional English fare, introducing far Eastern flavours to classic sea bream and Kentish roe deer.
Indulging in an unusual eatery experience, guests will stay on the right side of the docks with a three course à la carte dinner. The rotating menu includes starters such as Konkani jhinga, made up of king prawns with ginger, curry leaves, and kokum (£9.50), a galette of chick peas (£7), or the chef’s selection of mini starters on a platter (£13). Main courses could entail a paneer and broccoli kofta (£13.95), tiger prawns in curry paste (£19.95), or an 8oz fillet of black peppered beef with a curry leaf (£22.95), while those with a sweet tooth conviction can indulge in banana and raison five spice spring rolls (£6.95) or a Silk dessert platter selection (£12). Diners can complement their supper with a choice of apple fizz or diamond spritz Piper-Heidsieck champagne cocktails, and will be treated to a tea or coffee to round off the evening.
Reviews
Silk was rated a tasty 7.8/10 by toptable users, while initial TripAdvisor reviews awarded 3.5/5 overall. Though a few users found the atmosphere a little quiet at times, others felt it made for an intimate venue, and enjoyed the unusual surroundings and the quality of the Asian fusion menu.
Excellent food, wine and service. Lovely small intimate atmosphere with plenty of history attached to it. We will go back.

The Asian fusion menu of Thai and Indian is certainly interesting with some strange combinations, and is more Thai than Indian. The Crab Curry I chose as a main was a dry Thai spiced dish but with a Nan [sic] bread. But I couldn’t fault the quality and certainly the quantity of the food.
