With over 1000 square metres of vibrant, bouldering walls that span the width of a 150-year-old converted church, Awesome Walls is a colossal indoor climbing facility that caters for all adventurers, and their ups and downs. With hundreds of route problems to tackle, the establishment boasts a kaleidoscope of different angled walls, including vertical, gently sloping slabs, and a giant overhanging roof for true adrenaline seekers. While the man-made mountain walls reach dizzying heights of up to 17.5 metres, the climbing fortress is also home to four bouldering walls and a drytooling area where climbers can use pairs of indoor axes to climb from the bottom to the roof.

Four academy dates and times to choose from mean that budding wall scramblers can look forward to eight hours of climbing time and instruction. Harnesses, shoes and chalk provided, all adventurists need to bring is bags of enthusiasm and a steely head for heights. Little ones as young as seven and as old as 16 can make moves on the walled beasts, learning the skills it takes to reach the very top. During the course, a drink and snack will be provided to keep energies fully fuelled and, on completion of the course, the graduation ceremony will celebrate the high points of the four days.

The instructor was good fun and patient. In an hour we all learnt how to use the ropes and had a few climbs each. It was busy but everyone seemed friendly and tolerant of us beginners.
