Gung ho-tels, not to be confused with everyday hotels, are lodgings where staff are famed for enthusiastically performing cartwheels whilst escorting customers to their rooms. Get keyed up with today’s Groupon: for £89 get a one night stay in a double standard room with breakfast for two, plus a two course dinner for two, a bottle of wine upon arrival, and a 30 minute beauty treatment for one at Durker Roods Hotel.
Built as a private residence in 1870, Durker Roods Hotel has been quietly looking after itself for years, culminating in a recent restoration to gloriously embrace both big celebratory ceremonies and small conference meetings. 31 bedrooms with full en suite facilities, fluffy towels, and free Wi-Fi greet guests and dogs alike, as boldly printed linen and dark wood period pieces provide a rich warmth to the hotel’s already opulent offerings. While its broad exterior is tinted with the traditional grandeur of rosy brown brick work, the interior is awash with natural light that beams in from three acres of mature woodland and tumbling lawns. The treats don’t stop there, as top quality food is available from Oscars Restaurant and tailored treatments from the in-house salon, Nail Nirvana.
Winding through wondrous local towns and the picturesque countryside of the Pennines, weary travellers can look to Durker Roods Hotel in Meltham for respite and relaxation. Here, couples can put their feet up in a double standard room and wind down with a welcoming bottle of red or white wine. Room upgrades are available and for £15 customers can upgrade to a bottle of bubbly and a box of chocolates instead. Thereafter, buddies and their taste buds will be tickled by the delectable savours of Oscars Restaurant, where a two course dinner awaits on a menu that includes lip-licking starters such as garlic mushrooms on toasted brioche, mouth-watering mains of braised beef in red wine with sage dumplings, and delightful desserts including warm crepes filled with forest fruit compote and Chantilly cream. An upgrade to three courses is available for £5 per person.
A 30 minute treatment from the in-house salon, Nail Nirvana, brushes on an extra coating of relaxation as guests can choose from a back, neck, and shoulder massage, mini facial, eyebrow threading, manicure, or pedicure. Customers can upgrade the length of treatment at a cost, and there is also 10% off any additional beauty treatments taken. Snuggling into the cosy crispness of clean sheets in the evening preludes a homely continental breakfast for two the next morning, which can be upgraded to a full English for £5 per person. For couples who don’t want to wake up and whizz off so soon, stays can be extended at a discounted rate.

Set in a lovely quiet location with very friendly helpful staff, this is a great hotel for a relaxing break. The hotel has been tastefully refurbished recently. Our standard bedroom was spacious with a good en suite and a generous selection of hot drinks and biscuits.
