An afternoon of racing at Startrax assembles a celebration of heritage vehicles, photo finishes, near misses and metal-on-metal brawls. Races feature Brisca F2 stock cars, 1600c bangers, Startrax Hotrods and Reliant Robins. The turnstiles open at 6pm, and spectators receive two programmes to keep them clued up.
Groupon Asks Steven Rees of Startrax about the high-octane antics of stock-car racing, and the mighty vehicles that battle it out on the unforgiving track.
G: What makes stock car racing special?
"It's like watching gladiators in an arena! Lots of cars on a small track ensure thrills and excitement for all the family as you watch the drama unfold. It's an amazingly brash, colourful and unforgettable experience! Banger racing delivers awesome destruction and is about surviving the metal-bending carnage, while stock car racing offers a combination of race skills with full-contact action."
G: Describe the experience of watching stock car racing.
"Speed and full-on contact creates an exhilarating atmosphere, while a huge family audience, dedicated race fans and teams give the sport an atmosphere of friendliness. Unlike other sports, stock car racing allows you to get up close with the cars and drivers, talk to them and take pictures. Some are huge personalities in the sport, but behind the scenes it's all informal and drivers love meeting fans."
G: Do you have any experience in racing?
"I raced Big League BriSCA F1 for many years, and more latterly banger racing, until common sense and age took over and I moved to the other side of the fence to become a promoter. It's the best job on the planet as it's adrenaline-fuelled!"
