A cosy boutique eatery, The Hale Kitchen & Bar serves up classic British meals that do the contemporary twist, dancing on elegant plates under the soft lighting of chandeliers. The child-friendly restaurant makes the most of locally-sourced ingredients wherever possible, and serves up a thirst-abating array of tipples to guests reclining in booth style seating. Bringing a shining slice of glamour to the village centre, the bistro's quaint Hale position is just a teeny stroll from the railway station.

Starters including beef carpaccio salad: fine sliced rare sirloin in pastrami spices, horseradish crème fraîche, peppery leaves and pickled vegetables (£7.95) will whet appetites in time for a barrage of tempting mains. Large plates are well-represented by the steak Diane, a sirloin served with buttered spinach and Diane sauce (£18.95), and pan-fried lemon sole served with new potatoes and seasonal greens (£17.95). Pudding fans can opt for dessert over a starter, choosing from a selection of ice creams (£6.95) and other sweet treats, while those taking up the four person option will each receive a flute of champagne (£7.95).
