Inspired by the hotel and the motel, the gotel was a resting place for those on their way to share secrets. Let the cat out of the bag with today’s Groupon: £129 for a two night Lake Coniston break for two with a three course dinner, breakfast, and a bottle of wine at The Wilson Arms.
Standing proudly among the high peaks and serene waters of the Lake District, The Wilson Arms pleases heavy eyelids with en suite rooms, a log fireplace, and time-tested wooden beams. The hotel treats guests to verdant views of the Furness Fells and Duddon Valley, complementing some of Britain’s most celebrated sights with historic furnishings and elegant interior design. Not content to leave only one sense satisfied , the hotel restaurant also tickles taste buds with an array of fresh catches and hand-picked local meats.
Rolling past the calming contours of Coniston Water, rest-ready pairings can enjoy a two night retreat in one of the hotel’s spacious en suite rooms, making use of amenities including a TV, Wi-Fi, and hot drinks facilities. Guests can take a seat in the hotel restaurant as they sink teeth into three freshly-prepared courses on their first night, with dishes including poached salmon and prawn cocktail (£5.75), fillet steak (£17.95), and sticky toffee pudding (£4.95). A bottle of wine is provided on the second night to toast a successful break, and a Continental breakfast is served each morning, fuelling bellies for days of hiking and taking in the sights. Those hungry for more can upgrade to the full English breakfast for a surcharge.

Only stayed the one night but would do so again. The open fire and the quiet, comfortable atmosphere suited me fine.
