Complimentary soaps are renowned for their slippery nature; in particular their tendency to avoid lathery ends by sweet-talking bathers with falsely flattering remarks. Leave the soap operas at home with today’s Groupon: £99 for a one night getaway for two with breakfast, chocolates and more at Lumley Castle Hotel.
A knight in shining armour to those seeking fluffy pillows, fine dining and cosy slumber chambers, the magnificent Lumley Castle has prevailed for over 600 years among County Durham’s verdant environs. The monument to a bygone age of chivalry and knights upon noble steeds offers stunning views of the surrounding parkland, cricket grounds and the picturesque River Wear, making it an ideal location for weddings, conferences, and other grand shindigs as well as snuggly nights in. The castle combines both luxurious splendour with warmth and comfort, offering 73 cosy bedrooms, each individually designed and decorated with sumptuous double beds, squidgy arm chairs and elegant patterned draperies.

Striding into the hotel’s charming ambience, guests will be lead to a comfortably furnished courtyard room where a box of Belgian chocolates awaits, as well as a bottle of Ocean Point Shiraz wine to get things off to a corking start, or a ‘Lord Lumpy’ castle teddy bear. The courtyard rooms are located immediately adjacent to the hotel, in what was originally the stable block of the castle. Having been stylishly converted, guest will find their rooms kitted out with all the necessary creature comforts including full en suite facilities, internet access, tea and coffee making facilities and a hospitality tray to engender welcoming feelings of warm fuzziness. After a sleeping over, guests will be greeted with a hearty breakfast the next morning before heading off home emitting contended sighs.

Reviews
Guests have noted the friendly staff and décor which complements the character of the 14th Century castle. TripAdvisor users placed the hotel within the top 10 in the area, while a score of 8.6/10 was awarded by Booking.com reviewers.
We were impressed from the time that we saw the towers from the road. The reception, the corridors, the stairs and the room all matched to our expectations of an old and little dark castle. We loved it! We were lucky enough to get the romantic room with red interior. Everything was absolutely beautiful.

The hotel itself was the epitome of historic holidaying. The room was presented perfectly from the four poster bed to the stunning views I have mentioned. The staff were superbly courteous and the restaurant offered a delicious a la carte experience. There ambience was stunning.
