Run by the Monaghan family since 1978, the 18th century rural hostelry is a charming picture of red tiled roofing and colourful flower baskets in the heart of Great Ayton village. Boasting original beamed ceilings and welcoming log fires the traditional inn also has an upstairs function room and guest accommodation. The Inn is open every day of the week, serving early birds, lunch, and dinner plus keg ales such as Theakston’s Old Peculiar and Theakston’s Bitter, along with lager, cider, wines and spirits.

The Sunday lunch for two includes a small glass of wine or ale each (£2.10 each) and a choice of starter. A range of starters includes chicken liver pate on toast (£4.75) or Danish herrings in dill dressing on rye (£4.75). The roast of the day (£8.25) varies weekly, other mains including grilled salmon fillet with parsley butter, Chinese style chicken curry (£8.25), or cod, chips and mushy peas (£9.95).
