Standing at 23m, the Sunderland Wall tests the mathematical and climbing ability of adrenaline-junkies of all aptitudes. With an area of 900m2, an overhang of 8m, and 140 potential routes on the main walls spread across 32 lines, this spectacular behemoth is the tallest climbing wall in the UK. Going strong since 2003, the climbing centre also features a bouldering wall, a café and a lecture room for studious spidermen.
Once your nerves have settled from viewing the splendour of the main wall, your instructor will take you to the lecture room to begin the induction. Safety is paramount and initial sessions include lessons on how to put on a harness correctly, how to knot efficiently and maintaining good climbing technique. At the end of the induction, retire to the café for a coffee and a panini before arranging your second and third induction sessions. The annual membership included allows you to bring up to two guests per visit and book at discounted rates.

In summary it is very good with a great variety of not just grades, but styles and techniques required. The routes are well done and are original with some rather interesting moves on some of the more technical ones; with routes often being changed.
