Seasoned with thirty years of culinary experience, Mario, the man behind La Vita, brings an authentic tricolour taste to the streets of Newcastle. The establishment doffs its hat to the Mediterranean with exposed brickwork and walls painted in terracotta hues, while serving up delicious helpings of cured Italian meats with marinated olives, stone-baked pizza pies, and bowls of risotto topped with shavings of Parmesan cheese.
Fantastico feasts can encompass a freshly-baked pizza pie, such as the granturco topped with chicken, sweetcorn, and bubbling mozzarella (£4.75), or a calzoni folded pizza such as the vulcano with mozzarella, tomato, chicken, bacon and ham plus a spicy tomato sauce (£5.50). Alternatively, diners cap opt for a plate of pasta, with choices including the marinara with sautéed seafood in a garlic, white wine and tomato sauce (£6.95), or a risotto such as the mushroom, dressed in a creamy Parmesan and spinach sauce (£5.95). The menu was varied and also excellent value. The quality of the food was excellent. The soup was homemade and tasted fresh. Pizzas were some of the best we have had. Must mention the service - couldn't fault it.
