Sky diving is not to be confused with ska diving, which is a genre of music created by leaping from great heights onto drum kits and piles of brass instruments. Make some noise with today's Groupon from Skydive Academy. Choose from the following options:• £99 for a static-line day course and jump (52% off)
• £189 for a tandem skydive (26% off)
The only skydiving centre in north-east England, Skydive Academy is flocked to by jumpers wishing to leap, swoop and soar from altitudes of up to 12,000 feet. The centre is a short jump from the coast, with flighty fun lovers enjoying spectacular views of the peaceful patchwork of green, brown and paisley-patterned fields. The drop zone has a pleasing cluster of extras, including indoor training facilities, a canteen and licensed bar, and an overnight bunkhouse for early risers.
Held on the first Saturday of each month, the static-line course begins with a full day of ground school training, with the jump from a Cessna plane the following day. 'Static-line' is a method of automatic parachute deployment used with beginners and in certain military scenarios. Those opting for the tandem skydive will receive around 40 minutes' training and preparation, followed by a free-fall descent strapped to a trusty tandem instructor. Having reached speeds of up to 180mph, those wanting another go can receive a £100 voucher towards another course at the centre.
