Rising majestically from the peaceful green slopes of the Redesdale Valley, Otterburn Tower Hotel is a lofty castle with roots stretching back to the 11th Century. Retaining original features such as oak panelling and stained glass, the hotel has been carefully brought into the 21st Century, featuring en suite rooms each individually decorated. The castle is snugly nestled in 32 acres of estate, with gardens stretching down to the whimsically historical village of Otterburn, and walks snaking off across the slopes. The combination of traditional and modern threads through to the kitchen, where the chefs delicately prepare dishes using fresh produce from the estate, which can be enjoyed in front of the inglenook fireplace.
Guests will receive treatment worthy of medieval royalty, drinking in the bright autumnal colours in the walkways and gardens as they make their way to one of the rooms for a two night rural retreat. Each temporary lodger receives a glass of wine to welcome them to the castle, and can rise to breakfast each morning, before slipping out to enjoy trout and salmon fishing in the hotel’s own stretch of the River Rede, or indulging in a spot of golf nearby. Back at the hotel, a cream tea can be taken on one of the afternoons, perhaps preceded by a visit to one of the nearby National Trust properties, or a stroll along Northumberland’s sandy coastline.
