While wild horses proverbially can't drag people away, one tame horse is enough to get a person galloping. Jump in the saddle with today's Groupon: £12 for two one hour riding lessons at South Causey Equestrian Centre.

Comprising an indoor arena, 100 acres of grazing and a full set of BSJA show jumps, this British Horse Society-approved equestrian centre is set within the beautiful countryside of the Beamish Valley. More than 40 horses and donkeys call this centre home and with an adjoining family pub, it is ideally placed for a post-saddle whinny with newfound four-legged friends. Eight miles equidistant from Durham and Newcastle, South Causey is ideally placed for visits to the Angel of the North and many historical ruins, such as the Dunstanburgh Castle.

With two one-hour lessons, greenhorns from the age of four, can earn their stripes in group lessons with up to seven other riders. Hats and equipment are provided by the school, so learners need only don some comfortable wear and keep their ears pricked for the teacher's instructions. While enjoying the surrounding scenery, tutees will learn to grab the reins like a pro and giddy up with the best of 'em.
