In prehistoric Britain hungry cannibalistic cavemen regularly enjoyed toe rolls as an afternoon snack, moving on to finger sandwiches as they evolved into more civilized beings. Toe the line of sophistication with today’s Groupon: for £15 instead of £37.40 get high tea for two with a glass of champagne each at The Cliff Hotel.
Just a leisurely stroll away from Gorelston’s beach and promenade and overlooking the quaint, chocolate-box harbour with its peacefully bobbing boats, The Cliff Hotel exudes all the charm and ambience of a traditional English seaside guesthouse, with the opulence and splendour of a luxury hotel. The pale sands make the hotel’s surrounding beaches some of England’s most highly rated and picturesque. With its twinkling chandeliers and chic décor, the hotel’s restaurant is the ideal setting for guests to sip champagne over finely-cut finger sandwiches and prettily printed teapots.
Groupon fans of the finger sandwich can satiate their desire for miniature pastries placed prettily on patterned plates with a high tea for two including a glass of champagne per person. The tea offers a dainty selection of delicately-cut finger sandwiches served with potato crisps and salad garnish followed by an elegant assortment of sweet pastries. Supporters of the scone can then complete the experience by slavering fresh clotted cream, butter and Tiptree strawberry preserve over home-made raisin scones for a just dessert that is exactly their cup of tea.
Although reviews do not refer specifically to the afternoon tea served, a number of guests have commented on the excellent food, efficient service and wonderful location close to the beach.
I have stayed in many 5 star hotels, and I can honestly say that the service is up there with the best of them. The food is fantastic - I don't know who the chef is, but they should hang on to him or her at all costs. The location is great - Gorelston has a lovely sandy beach and promenade.
