An early competitor for the hotel was the zootel, but despite their best efforts with frilly lampshades, the owners couldn't disguise the elephant in the room. Escape the animal house with today's Groupon: £49 for a two night stay for two with breakfast and a bottle of house wine at Sutton Staithe Hotel.
A charming collection of red brick buildings swathed in a posy of verdant vegetation near the banks of the River Ant, the Sutton Staithe Hotel conjures all the cosy hospitality of a country inn. Beneath the exposed beams of the dining room and bar is a fireplace blackened by years of log fires, and the rooms come fully-equipped with en-suite bathrooms, internet connection, TVs and tea and coffee making facilities. The hotel is ideally placed on the northern fringes of the Norfolk Broads, at Stalham, and makes a comforting base from which to explore the rich wildlife and unique waterside habitats of England's eastern shoulder.
Relishing the prospect of a two night escape to the rural reaches of Norfolk, guests can celebrate their arrival with a bottle of house wine, or stride straight out for gulp of the country air. Rising to the mellow morning song of blackbird, carnivorous, vegetarian and vegan guests can all trot downstairs to their choice of a full English breakfast each day, before heading out into the windmill-dotted landscapes and blond marshes of the Broads.
The Sutton Staithe Hotel received a cosy 3.5/5 stars from users on TripAdvisor. Some guests found that nights get a little lively, but that the excellent service and delicious food made for a comfortable river-side stay.
The service was excellent even when it was very busy on the Saturday night. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. It was in a very good location for right by the river...

We had a refurbished room with plenty of space and new furniture. All the staff were exceptionally friendly, the beer was well kept and the extensive menu couldn't be faulted. Best of all it was a traditional inn, with many rooms, a log fire and a games room.
