An early competitor for the hotel was the zootel, but despite their best efforts with frilly lampshades, the owners couldn't disguise the elephant in the room. Beneath the exposed beams of the dining room and bar is a fireplace blackened by years of log fires, and the rooms come fully-equipped with en-suite bathrooms, internet connection, TVs and tea and coffee making facilities. The hotel is ideally placed on the northern fringes of the Norfolk Broads, at Stalham, and makes a comforting base from which to explore the rich wildlife and unique waterside habitats of England's eastern shoulder.
