Though vicars are not known for their swearing, particularly impassioned men of the cloth might occasionally shout, “Darn!”. Say a hem to that with today’s Groupon from Emma Learoyd Design and Sunflower Design. Choose from the following options:
• £27 for a creative sewing, basic felt making, or confetti appliqué day workshop from Monday to Friday (73% off)• £34 for a creative sewing, basic felt making, or confetti appliqué day workshop on Saturday or Sunday (66% off)
As well as a rich tapestry of teaching and professional qualifications, the two textile designers at Emma Learoyd Design and Sunflower Design boast a unique scrap bag of tricks gathered in the retail industry. Emma Learoyd and Jan Merryweather embellish homes and wardrobes by hand-making their own designs for cushions, scarves, and wall hangings, rich with texture and colour, as well as passing on their talents through classes. Based in the centre of Nottingham, the textile studio can be found a quick stitch in time from the train station.

In a choice of three workshops running from 10am to 4pm either at the weekend or during the week, students can cotton on to inspired textile creation. The creative sewing workshop helps students make a cushion adorned with their own design, using appliqué or free machine embroidery, while the basic felt-making workshop shows how to combine colour and texture into soft felt and corsages with merino wool. A confetti appliqué workshop teaches the technique needed to turn chopped up fabrics and threads into intriguingly textured shapes, before using appliqué to add it to a simple book cover. All materials and fabrics are provided, as well as some thirst-busting refreshments.
