Hills have been useful since the beginning of time for the storage of sheep, successful flying of kites and as a particularly tricky starting point for driving tests. Park up at a hill hold in the country with today’s Groupon: for £69 get a one night Peak District retreat for two with a two course meal at Peveril of the Peak Hotel.
Burrowed into a green and splendid slope of the Peak District National Park, betwixt the much stepped stones of the River Dove and the moody mount of Thorpe Cloud, the period perks of the Peveril of the Peak hotel are only matched by its awe inspiring location, loved by country retreaters and nature trail beaters alike. With its first bricks laid in 1830 the Peveril of the Peak has been base camp for those wishing to explore the surrounding countryside since Jane Austen’s heroines began taking long walks as an excuse to chastely chat to young men in britches. This traditional property has an impeccable display of old world charm, cultivating warming firesides and framing beds in four posts, while guests enjoy dinner in its Garden Restaurant or withdraw for afternoon tea (with a side of embroidery and some society gossip) in the lounge bar.
Pairs of Groupon gallivanters will get one night’s stay at Peveril of the Peak Hotel, enjoying one of its standard or superior four poster bed suites (subject to availability). After a hard day touring the tors and venturing around the village, guests can return for a two course meal at the Garden Restaurant, sampling their range of high quality, and often locally sourced plates. While breakfast is not included, those who believe it to be the most important meal of the day can sample some early morning fare for an extra £10 per person.
Although some reviewers felt the hotel could benefit from updated decor, most guests expressed delight at the picturesque setting and excellent food at Peveril of the Peak. Booking.com users gave an average score of 7.6 out of ten, while LateRooms reviewers also remarked favourably, giving particular mention to the friendly staff.
Our rooms were clean and adequate for our needs with en suite facilities and pleasant views out onto well kept gardens and scenic countryside beyond. Good restaurant with pleasant atmosphere and excellent food, service very good.

The room was extremely spacious, the general ambiance good, a nice dining room and delicious food. Couldn't fault it, looking forward to another visit sometime. Even better, our dog was welcome too!
