Outstretching experienced kitchen hands to anyone interested in sharpening culinary skills, WI Cookery School is headed up by well-versed chef and cookery teacher Peter Lien. Succulent course options include day classes in Indian or Moroccan cuisine, baking lessons culminating with afternoon tea creation, and specialist lessons in chocolate making or vegetarian recipes. Besides cookery classes, a wide array of WI lifestyle and craft options is available on both a day and residential basis.

The three hour course tutors groups no bigger than 12 in how to wield the kitchen’s most essential instrument. Students are coached in dicing, the art of julienne, and ultra-fine chopping of fruit and vegetables, plus choosing and looking after knives. Jointing a chicken is one of the skills covered, which is necessary as part of the three course meal preparation. The end result is an expertly sliced and diced lunch or dinner of starter, Asian-style chicken main course, and fruit salad pudding, finally devoured by hardworking cheflets.
