The Hotel
Mirroring its Victorian façade with neat period trimmings inside, the 30 bedrooms of the Portbyhan Hotel are powdered with the likes of flower patterned curtains and table-top dollies. Views overlook the bright, buoyed fishing boats in the river-mouth and matchbox houses on the steeply rising hills. The restaurant and bar retains the harbourside feel, with nautical trinkets including a suspended ship’s wheel, and live music often diddled in the evening.
Groupon Recommends
Sample a traditional pasty or cream tea in one of the riverfront cafes for a spot of lunch or afternoon tea. Crossing the bridge to East Looe, walkers can strut around Banjo Pier, and explore the seaside shops. Watery trips can be taken out into the bay to visit Looe Island, officially known as St. George’s Island, or adventurers can potter along the coast by renting a sailing dingy.

Reviews
TripAdvisors rate Portbyhan a decent 3.5/5 stars, and 80% of LateRoomers would stay at the hotel again. While some guests found furnishings old-fashioned, reviewers keenly praise the location, friendly staff and standard of breakfast.
Beds comfortable, breakfast lovely, evening meals home cooked and really nice. Our room had a balcony overlooking the harbour. To be honest we realy [sic.] liked the fact that this little hotel was a little dated, this added to its charm… We found it lovely eating our meals in the restaurant and watching the boats go by. We enjoyed the entertainment, great laugh at the kareoke [sic].

We were given a clean, bright and airy room with a great view of the harbour. The bathroom was adequate. Breakfast in the bustling dining room with a table at the window. We loved the hotel and the little seaside town and will certainly return as soon as we can!
