Quality British cuisine is the focus at Shoulder of Mutton, where a two-course meal awaits diners. To start, options include the crab cocktail with apple, lime, Bloody Mary and radish, along with the Waldorf salad. To follow, there’s the breast and rump of Cheshire lamb with salt-baked turnip, bistort and pea puree; and the roasted line-caught cod loin with camone tomatoes, broad beans, samphire and bacon cream. A liqueur latte will accompany meals.

What kind of food is served?
All food is freshly homemade using locally sourced Lancashire produce wherever possible. Traditional British dishes make up the menu at the establishment that was voted Food Pub of the Year by Manchester Food and Drink Festival 2012, with Head Chef Chris Yates a Gordon Ramsay Scholarship Finalist.
What about drinks?
The bar stocks an extensive wine list with bottles from as far and wide as Argentina and Australia, as well as several cask-conditioned ales from local micro-breweries.
What’s the atmosphere like?
The 18th Century pub is accommodating in all seasons, with the fireplace keeping things cosy in the winter, and the beer gardens taking advantage of the sun in the summer months. The Holcombe Village setting, among the West Pennine moors, makes the pub an ideal place for starting or finishing a country walk.
What sort of entertainment is available?
Regular events for all tastes are held at the pub, including jazz nights, quiz nights and live music from an Irish band.
