The Hotel
This four star lodging is plotted beside a 33 acre swathe of lake and contains a wealth of comfy facilities that contentedly look out over the rural setting. The hotel's Waterfront lounge and bar seats guests at the edge of the lake, where they can enjoy a selection of small plates and drinks, while the Lakeside restaurant proffers somewhat fancier dishes. The multiplicity of food and drink options is handily offset by a fitness room, within which high tech equipment surveys the gardens beyond floor-length windows.

Groupon Recommends
A half hour drive into Windsor will bring you to the Royal borough's eponymous castle; the official residence of the Queen and a monument steeped in history. Explore the treasure chest of the state apartments and encounter HRH herself in a special diamond jubilee photo exhibition. Also located in Windsor is the world-famous Ascot racecourse, where a jam-packed events roster means that you can flutter all year round, without the over-sized hat. Stay a little closer to the hotel with an educational jaunt around the two buildings that make up Reading Museum - situated at both the town hall and Blake's Lock, these central attractions house a range of galleries and community-based exhibitions.

The Stay
• Standard double en suite room with balcony
• Bottle of house wine and chocolates in room on arrival
• TV, 24 hour room service, telephone, and safe in room

Transport
Rail: Reading train station is around 6 miles from the hotel. This station connects to much of the UK via direct lines and a 40 minute connection to London Paddington.

Reviews
Reading Lake Hotel was recommended by 81% of LateRooms.com users, while TripAdvisors awarded a comfortable 3/5. Though some opinions on the decor were mixed, guests have praised the hotel’s friendly staff, relaxing atmosphere, and lakeside location.
All of the staff I encountered were very helpful and friendly, some of the best I've met. Efficient check in. The room was very spacious and the sleeping/rest area was very clean and tidy.

The hotel itself is based in a nice location, overlooking a large lake (which was frozen when I stayed!). It's a little out of the way, but very quiet because of that.
