This New Forest tea room’s mullioned windows and polished furniture are bedecked with images of cosy woodland creatures and overlooked by ponies, creating a cosy bower in which to be ensconced with some scones. Tucked away in the chintzy village of Brockenhurst, this café serves gentle fare, such as baguettes and omelettes alongside hearty breakfasts and lunches featuring warming jacket potatoes and wraps. The tea room is one a small chain of three quaint eateries, all keeping meetings going sweetly with cakes and New Forest ice cream.

Two treat-lovers can enjoy an afternoon tea together, giving the thumbs up to a selection of finger sandwiches, including tuna mayonnaise and egg and cress.
