The ceiling’s the limit at Alter Rock Climbing Centre, where budding heel hookers can engage in some simian antics over 54 roped climbing lines and 100 sq. metres of bouldering walls. The centre’s tutored sessions are run by experienced climbers in conjunction with the National Indoor Climbing Achievement Scheme (NICAS). A haven of dynos, slabs, and overhangs, the centre features hundreds of routes to test climbers of all abilities as well as an equipment shop packed full of the latest gear.
Those opting for the three-hour introductory course will be schooled in all the essentials for a safe and efficient climb on the various routes around the centre. Tying in, belaying, footwork, and safety calls will all be explained, giving budding climbers the knowledge to progress. A second unsupervised session is included, in which rock stars can come back and try out their new-found skills. Alternatively, a group of four can dip their toes into a new activity with a one-hour taster session, designed to provide an insight into the world of rock climbing and bouldering. A £10 voucher towards climbing shoes from the onsite shop is also included for participants opting for the three-hour introductory session.

Very helpful and friendly staff, a good size mug of tea and home made flapjack to keep me warm whilst the kids climb. Do dress in ALL your clothes if you're not climbing though as it is cold due to being a church.
