You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it sail a boat. Keep four feet on dry land with today's Groupon: £19 for a kids’ pony experience at The Holistic Horse and Pony Centre.
The residents of The Holistic Horse and Pony Centre take full advantage of an alternative approach to equine care as they roam free over 50 acres of pasture. Not all the horses are ridden at the centre, as the management is keen to promote a template for human interaction that goes beyond the saddle. Communication classes run alongside instruction on care and grooming, with each class helping students get closer to an understanding of how horses think. Paddocks and stable facilities are also available throughout the year.
Wannabe riders or fresh-faced novices can take part in a four-hour pony experience, during which they will learn key skills in equestrian care and interaction. Grooming is first on the list as carers learn how to take care of a pony through techniques such as brushing and combing. Once familiar with new-found friends, horsey-folk will be taught how lead and secure a pony before receiving instruction on saddle use and care. Riders will also discover how to ride safely as well as investigating how horses think and how best to communicate with them.
