A refurbished tavern set amongst Shrivenham’s country fields, The Fat Dog is a traditional haven for hungry puppies and now boasts an AA rosette winning chef. Their outdoor eating space allows for sun-drenched summer dining, while the warm and welcoming interiors make for toasty winters, and the conservatory seating creates a happy glass medium between nature and cosiness. Chef Greg Szuniewicz sources his meat from a local butcher whenever possible, strives to use fish from sustainable waters and his menus change with the seasons, helping to ensure super-fresh grub alongside The Fat Dog’s own bread, jams, sauces and ethical smugness.

Canine inclined lunch daters can opt for a Monday to Saturday meal out, choosing any meal from the lunchtime menu, including sandwiches of slow roasted beef with horseradish mayo (£6.50) or Wiltshire rarebit (£6.95), and can add a bucket of chips for a £1.50 surcharge.

It had been a couple of years since visiting the Fat Dog and we have been three times in the last five weeks, each time we have tried different meals and have been with different people. We have had great food and good service each time.

Had heard through friends that the Fat Dog was great and the new chef was good but they really undersold the place. Super food, spot on service and the atmosphere was wonderful. Loved stopping for lunch and will return very soon, would highly recommend and also have a look at this venue for parties and celebrations too.
