While focused intensely during spotting sessions, locomotion lovers often lose their train of thought near someone with great esteem. Get on the right track with today’s Groupon: £10 for family admission to Colne Valley Railway.
Blowing billowing puffs of antique steam into the Essex countryside, Colne Valley Railway fuels imaginations with an insight into steam and diesel locomotive innovation straight from the past. The period railway park steams ahead with full-sized steam and diesel trains, and garden and miniature railways, while an illuminating exhibition centre elucidates the history of the junction for eager learners and experts alike. Blowing the whistle for school groups with educational services, the railway also hands the wheel to eager conductors with steam driving courses.
Families of two adults and up to two children can practice their best ‘choo choo’ as they enjoy entry to the park on one of the Steam Operating Days. Families can then hop on board a retro diesel or steam engine train, which will loop through Nunnery Junction around Castle Hedingham, before returning back to base along the River Colne. After the scenic ride, train lovers can spend the rest of the day at the park absorbing more information at the museum, refuelling with a bite at the 'Sidings' buffet carriage, or admiring the model railways on site.
Reviews
Colne Valley Railway receives a 5/5 rating on TripAdvisor. Reviewers said the outing made for a fun event for the entire family.
We took our grandson last Easter - perfect weather. There were so many trains for him to go on and see, and a toy train set etc to play with. Also a Punch & Judy show. A really great day was had by us all.
