Groupon Expands to Europe Via Acquisition of Groupon UK, Now Operating in 18 Countries

CHICAGO May 17, 2010 -- Groupon announced today that is has acquired Groupon UK, the world ’s largest Groupon clone. Operating in more than 80 markets in 16 countries, Groupon UK has quickly proven the power of the Groupon model across Europe, saving its one million subscribers more than 5 million USD this April alone.
Groupon UK was founded in November 2009 by a group of European entrepreneurs. The site ran its inaugural deal in Berlin in January 2010, and has since opened offices in the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy, and other major European countries, currently employing more than 600 people.
