From Our Editors

Tiggywinkles is a hospital and safe haven for injured animals of all shapes and sizes, committed to rescuing and rehabilitating British wildlife. The on-site visitors' centre features information and videos on the history of the sanctuary, and encompasses a trail which wends around the pond, the deer paddocks and a sanctuary area. The sanctuary is designed to give wild animals a chance to live a life that is protected but resembles their natural habitat as closely as possible. Tiggywinkles also runs a range of one-day workshops including wildlife first aid, wildlife keeper experiences and animal care diploma courses.

It is principally a animal/bird rescue center and they have many sick and injured that are not on view but those that are make it well worth while. The talks are good and the staff very helpful.

An enjoyable hour and a half for family. Our 10 year old daughter loved it. Hedgehog talk was really interesting - the man who delivered it was really knowledgeable and kept the children interested by making it humorous. The fact that he was being attacked by a tortoise throughout the whole thing made it even more entertaining. Museum about all things hedgehog was more interesting for us as an adult as we remembered some of the memorabilia from our youth! Although, where were the hedgehog crisps? Anyone expecting a cafe will be disappointed - you can get hot and cold drinks and snacks (prepacked sandwiches from gift shop) but no actual cafe/tearoom. A good place to take a picnic. Think the experience could be improved a little by having more staff/volunteers around to tell you about the animals and also someone explaining what you could see through the viewing windows of the nursery etc. Due to the time we were there we also missed the slide show in the education centre which was a shame. Could it not be on a rolling loop so that you can see it anytime? An interesting little place that provides an invaluable service which is worth a couple of hours visit as it is a way to support their work.
