From Our Editors
For the past 30 years, the team at Toby Carvery have been on a mission to bring British roast dinners nationwide. All meat is sourced from UK grass-fed or free-range farms that meet Red Tractor standards. Every day, each Toby Carvery restaurant lays on a family-sized feast. Tender, slow-cooked meats, eight lots of freshly-prepared veggies, including crispy, ruffled roasties, and freshly-made Yorkshires served crisp, fluffy and piping-hot. Vegetarian and vegan options are on the menu for those who leave meat off their plates, and a wide range of drinks can be paired with the dishes for a boosted indulgence. A kids menu and all-you-can-eat breakfasts are also available.
This Toby in Roborough was very, very busy & although we booked we waited another 10mins. We were seated at the back. It was hot in there & felt cramped in. Atmosphere wasn't pleasant. Waitress was pleasant and her service good.
Fantastic meal. Large portions. Piping hot. Brilliant customer service,
On arrival, there was no bar staff. We were told that there would be no food for at least an hour, but when we said we had booked we were told to wait Eventually we were shown to a table and a waitress came to take our order. There was little choice for drinks because they had run out of several items of stock available to Groupon costomers, then we were told to go up to the Carvery. Although there were no other costomers waiting we had to stand at the carvery for about ten minutes before a chef appeared to serve us the meat and Yorkshire Puddings. The meat was OK but I was offered a Yorkshire pudding that resembled a pancake. I asked why it was flat and was told that he had put too much water in the mix but it was fine. It was a piece of batter and should never have been offered. The vegetables were OK but not brilliant and it was evident that they had been out for a long time.
We ate our main course then left.
The premises were short staffed, and although there were a few people eating and many others waiting there were only 2 waitresses and a manager visible, the waitresses having to do the bar as well as food. The atmosphere was dead and it would appear that the place is in trouble.
We came away saying that we would not return.
The food was good but not the service, short of staff I think, and I had booked a table before I went but there was no booking found.
Lovely fresh food. Good selection of vegetables. Enormous Yorkshire Pud! Choice of various meats. Very good value for money. Friendly staff.
Good food and plenty of it. House wine very drinkable. Environment such as walls, floor and menu cards could be cleaner.
Carvery was very good value and tasty
A good deal which covered all of our food (2 x King sized yummy roasts with all the trimmings) + our drinks (a refillable soft drink & a pint of lager) which I hadn't expected.
This was our 1st visit to the Toby Carvery in Banbury and we were well looked after by helpful staff. I will definitely be looking out for and repeating this Groupon deal as soon is it becomes available.
Queuing for food is never a good thing,But I suppose that’s the nature of the Beast.Having One Chef carving the Meat and not being in a rush to do so didn’t help.
