From Our Editors

First opened in Soho in 1926, Patisserie Valerie follows artisan baking traditions brought to London by Belgian-born Madam Valerie whose mission was to introduce continental patisserie to the English. Now boasting over 120 multiple venues nationwide, the company adorns its cafes with a 1950s-inspired decor and serves up an array of freshly-made cakes, craft patisseries, breakfasts, lunches, coffees and loose leaf teas. Their specialties are artisan-baked croissants and viennoiseries, as well as homemade Italian-style gelato ice cream.

I went to Patisserie Valerie in Colchester to celebrate my birthday. Staff were very helpful and nice, afternoon tea - very yummy.

The food was very good, but the service was abysmal. I had phoned to reserve a table, but the table which was allocated to me was a pokey table in the corner. I was not impressed especially as it was a birthday treat for a friend.

Was not impressed . It's cheaper to just have afternoon tea in the restaurant than the price on here . I bought the bubbly one but couldn't have it as they don't serve alcohol in many branches would of thought I could of had another cold drink but no . Was a total waste of money

Avoid. Had really really bad afternon tea for hubbys birthday recently which put a downer on his day. Hot chocolate was like drinking dishwater, the scones were like over heated microwave muffins thst had any air, crumble or texture sucked out of them and a few of the cakes were soggy and and what could only be decribed as unedable. The manager however did appologise and offered us free cakes but they were equally just as awful but maybe more because fresh cream cakes are not our taste rather than them nessaserily being awful. Go to sailsbury one as much nicer and the room at saisbury is much bigger. At the bourbemouth one the tables are so close together your amost on top of the person sat next to you. Really dissapointed having suprised hubby for his birthday but also felt bad that i wasnt able to do much else with hubby being at pregnancy term whilst nanny took our toddler for a couple of hours which on refection now felt wasted.
