From Our Editors

Alive with colour and spice, the family-run Assilah Bistro brings Moroccan flavours to Bristol. The restaurant is situated on Wells Road between Arno’s Vale and Totterdown, and less than ten minutes’ drive from the city centre. The kitchen prepares slow-cooked meat and seafood tagines, meatballs and plenty of vegetarian dishes. Meals are crafted according to traditional recipes and feature authentic blends of spices such as harissa, saffron and ginger. Chefs also offer a range of Halal options and can cater for diabetic dietary requirements. The dining area features patterned furnishings, warm colours and North African trinkets. Elsewhere, the lounge sports comfy seating and the patio offers outdoor tables. Diners can sip on a Moroccan mint tea or may opt to hire a sheesha pipe. The eatery plays host to Arabian belly dancing and other live entertainment throughout the year.

Assilah Bistro have a lovely homey atmosphere. The foods are beautifully made with just the right ingredients, it does take a while to arrive but it's because it is made when ordered not pre-cooked or heated up.. The staffs are friendly and welcoming. I will definitely return again and I will definitely recommend it to my family and friends.

Lovely food and ambience. Great service and great value but low tables and seating could be more comfortable!

Lovely and friendly. We did have a couple of problems however. I notified the restaurant beforehand that one of us was gluten free. When we got there we were informed that they didn't have any rice! Only cous cous which she could not have. On ordering our starters about 20 mins later we were told they didn't have any falafels and was offered fish cakes or vine leaves. We asked what they had that was gluten free and there was a choice of one dish of 'chicken, lemon & olives tagine. Lucky my friend liked chicken! Overall the food that we had was nice but a bit poor for a Moroccan restaurant to not have any rice!
