From Our Editors

Café Rouge was launched in Richmond, London, in 1989 by Karen Jones and Roger Myers, foodies on a mission to recreate real French food and wine in a Parisienne bistro style setting. Rouge was also the fave hangout for Bridget and friends in Bridget Jones’s Diary, the novel that helped make Café Rouge a household name. Today they continue to recreate core classics like Steak Frites, Poulet Breton, Moules and Confit de Canard, as well as croques, salads and baguettes, all available to enjoy with a gorgeous glass of French wine, at a choice of over 80 branches nationwide.

Meal was very good except it was served on cold plates. Apparently this is Cafe Rouge policy. If so then we won't return for a hot meal....

Have found Café Rouge to be consistently good with pleasant & engaging staff. Their steaks are really rather good.

Cafe Rouge is in a lovely building in Abbeygate Street. With a lot of local competition they have had to try and improve their interior and service. This has always been slow and is now better though not perfect - our two coffees and desserts arrived in three seperate trips meaning one dessert was finished before the other arrived. The steak, frites and wine groupon is very good value but make sure you order your steak rarer than required as both ours were cooked more than we would have liked - and I ordered rare! All in all a pleasant evening.

We went to Cafe Rouge in Covent Garden (Wellington Street). It was a very busy Saturday lunchtime and the staff were friendly and helpful. The steak and frites were delicious. We lingered over dessert and did not feel pressurised to leave quickly. A pleasant way to enjoy a Saturday lunch in London.
