The Deal

Learners can pick up the essential techniques of either tiling or household electrics with this choice of four-week course. The former is a Level 1 Ascentis course which covers the basics of tiling bathroom or kitchen walls including datum and plumb lines, cutting and fixing tiles using a spacer and grouter, and problem solving. The latter covers the basics of electrics including changing fuses, resetting RCDs and MCBs, and changing a plug top or light fitting. Both courses result in a certificate on successful completion, and feature weekly classes which take place from 6.15pm to 9.15pm on weekdays.

The Merchant

Bury College provides students with a host of academic and vocational programmes in a wide range of subjects. Students can take up full or part-time courses in everything from accounting and animal care to music and tourism. Also available are apprenticeships to help those over 16 find a vocation, and a host of university courses. Staff run a variety of activities and clubs throughout the year, focused around physical activities, performing arts and more. The college is based less than eight miles from central Manchester, and boasts a four-storey centre complete with lecture room, study areas, meeting rooms and conference facilities.
