From Our Editors

First established in Soho in 1926, Patisserie Valerie follows artisanal baking traditions brought to London by Belgian-born Madam Valerie, whose mission was to introduce continental patisserie to the English. Now boasting over 120 venues nationwide, the company adorns its cafes with the 1950s-inspired decor and serves up an array of freshly-made cakes, craft pastries, breakfasts, lunches, coffees and loose-leaf teas. Their specialities include meticulously-crafted croissants and viennoiseries, as well as homemade Italian-style gelato.

Very pleasant young girl serving who informed that they had run out of sandwiches at 2.30 in the afternoon, offered my friend and I a baguette each which I think had been there from the day before as they were exceedingly dry. The scones, cakes and drinks were fine.

We recently had an afternoon tea. The food was very good, but the service was slow. We waited quite a while for the food to arrive, and the same when we asked for the tea to be refreshed. It was fairly busy at the time and the staff seemed disorganised. However, this won't put me off afternoon teas in the future as they are good value for money.

It is one of the best Afternoon Tea you can get. Love the small quiche included and the clotted cream with the scones!
