From Our Editors

The story of Jamie's Italian began when Jamie Oliver, supported by his Italian mentor, chef Gennaro Contaldo, opened the first restaurant in Oxford in 2008. Since then, the kitchen's experienced chefs have been committed to bringing a piece of Italy to customers all over the UK, with a menu combining traditional recipes and quality ingredients with innovative ideas and Jamie's signature twist. Guests can savour an array of dishes, including freshly made pasta, as well as steaks, pizzas and salads that can be complemented by a fine selection of wine and cocktails.

I'm a big fan of Jamie's for its consistent good food and service, not so this time. From the set menu we chose crispy squid followed by crab pasta. The squid was limp and soggy with a bland dip and strangely had been bulked up with bits of fish alongside. We were very disappointed with the crab pasta which is one of my favourite dishes. The pasta had dried, the sparse and tasteless sauce contained a mere few flakes of crab. Worst meal ever at Jamie's, the service however was excellent hence 2 stars and not one.

Good food and excellent service

The service was second to none and made up for the very average Italian food that can be found so much cheaper elsewhere in Cambridge. Was so disappointed especially as the Groupon Voucher doesn't actually offer any discount at all. I might as well have paid full price when I got there. £85 for a lunch in Cambridge (okay it included 2 bottles of the house white) can be found elsewhere for cheaper and better I'm afraid.

My daughter's beef pasta was so tasty, but my crab dish was not good enough. I discovered (small, but) two pieces of crab shell were in the pasta, crab meat itself smelled not really fresh (by Japanese standard), herbs/garlic were too strong and all the ingredients didn't make good harmony. I managed to complete all, but a lady next to me left more than half of the same crab pasta on the plate. Also, main course didn't come easily more than 30 minutes after starter was finished (not arrival). Not many waiting staffs/cooking staffs for many tables/customers. I hope next time we go there, it might not be the same and I will go for meaty dish, instead of fishy one.

The meal was ok, nothing amazing, however, the service was very slow even though they were not very busy. Quite disappointing

Food was spot on. Quite noisy due to height of ceiling. Service a little slow at times. Shame there are no draft beers as bottled beer quite expensive for size of bottle. Chairs uncomfortable after a while.

Good food, good service. However I rate a restaurant by the cleanliness of the toilets and I am afraid they were not clean and the smell, very unpleasant. Time to get your bleach out Jamie!
